Clickio CDN Activation with CNAME Record Integration

Clickio CDN should be activated only after receiving confirmation from your Clickio account manager, that Prism is ready to go live.

If your site serves pages from your root domain (eg. domain.com, not www.domain.com), switching to Clickio CDN is possible only if your DNS management system supports the ability to create CNAME records for the root (main) domain (for example, this feature is available in Cloudflare DNS). Please contact your Clickio account manager if it’s not the case.

Please follow the steps below to activate Clickio CDN in your DNS provider account.

Step 1

Create a new A-type DNS record for master subdomain pointing to the IP address of your server. This will allow Prism to get content directly from your origin server.

  • DNS record type - A,
  • NameHost/Alias/Label* - master,
  • IPv4 address - the IP address of your server,
  • Proxy status (if this parameter is available) - DNS only (if using Cloudflare DNS, the cloud should be grey).

(*) The name of this parameter may differ in different DNS systems.

Step 2

Create a new CNAME type DNS-record for _acme-challenge subdomain pointing to the IP address of your server. This will allow Prism to confirm an SSL certificate for your domain while working via Clickio CDN.

  • DNS record type - CNAME,
  • NameHost/Alias/Label* - _acme-challenge,
  • Value/Destination/Target/Point* to - the URL provided by Clickio manager,
  • Proxy status (if this parameter is available) - DNS only (if using Cloudflare DNS - the cloud should be grey).

(*) The name of this parameter may differ in different DNS systems.

Step 3

Inform your Clickio manager that you have created the above CNAME records. Our technical specialists will issue the SSL certificate for the Prism version of your website.

Step 4

After your final approval of the Prism version and having received confirmation from the Clickio manager, that Prism is ready to go live, you can switch traffic to Clickio CDN.

After this step, 100% of your website’s traffic will go through Clickio CDN. It will happen within 20-240 minutes depending on hosting settings.

Change existing CNAME-type DNS-records to point to wpcdn.clickiocdn.com for your main domain/subdomain:

  • If your site serves pages from www. subdomain, only www record should be changed.
  • If your site serves pages from your root domain (eg. domain.com, not www.domain.com), the root domain record should be changed.
  • If there is an A-type record for a domain or a subdomain that needs to be changed, first delete the existing one and then create a new CNAME record instead.
